What is the point of pintrest?

In a word, it's 'hoarding'. It's about putting all the weird and wonderful crap you find online into visually stimulating, neatly arranged boxes.

The social features are just a sub-point to Pinterest. Evidence of this is obvious - just try using the service to send a user a message. You can't. Pinterest is barely about being social, and mainly about collecting.
